16th August — Crystal Palace Park & Dinosaurs
On a sunny summer day, 16th August, event organiser Jackie Husain met us at Crystal Palace
railway station and took us for a walk around the lower part of Crystal Palace Park.
Crystal Palace Park is a large park in south-east London, listed on the Register of
Historic Parks and Gardens, and laid out in the 1850s as a pleasure ground.
The famous dinosaur sculptures were unveiled in 1854, and have been awarded Grade I listing.
The park is quite large so we just covered the bottom part this time and left the
top for another walk later in the Summer. The walk was gravelly and mostly flat.
We visited the small animal farm, the dinosaur sculptures around the Lower Lake, the fishing
lake, the maze, the concert bowl and the sports centre.
